Accessible Toilets
Accessible Toilets
Accessible toilets designs help people with physical disabilities
Accessible toilets and washrooms need compliant hardware fixtures such as AS1428.1-2009 compliant toilet grab rails backrests and shower seats. Three styles of grab rails dominate the accessible toilet rails the standard straight grab rail , the 90 degree toilet grab rail and the 40 degree toilet grab rail.
Materials
All our 32mm diameter toilet grab rails get fully TIG welded and the materials consist of 304 grade with slip resistant satin (brushed finish). The covered wall fixings allow installations on most surfaces whilst hiding the fasteners beneath the removable covers.
We manufacture all our grab rails to comply with the design and construction requirements as listed below.
Grab rails
The requirements for the design and construction of grab rails are as follows:
(a) Grab rails shall be between 30 and 40 mm in diameter, or they shall have sectional shape within these limits.
(b) All exposed edges of handrails shall have a radius of not less than 5 mm.
(c) The fastenings and the materials and construction of grab rails shall be able to withstand a force of 1100 N (110kg) applied at any position and in any direction, without showing any visible signs of deformation or loosening of the fastening.
Requirements
(d) Unless otherwise specified, the clearance between a grab rail and the adjacent wall surface or any other obstruction shall be between 50 mm and 60 mm. This clearance shall extend above the top of the grab rail by not less than 600 mm.
(e) Grab rails shall be fixed so that there is no obstruction to the passage of the hand along the top 270 of the rail.
(f) Grab rails shall not rotate in their fittings.
